The days are growing cooler and shorter. Those long hot spells of summer are a fond memory.
Weather aside, the summer will also be remembered for important positions on health-care taken by The Supreme Court of Canada
and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Both will affect all of us in profound ways.
The Supreme Court of Canada declared on June 9 that sections of Quebec’s medicare
legislation are unconstitutional because they prohibit access to private health
insurance.
In other words, there’s no reason to endure long waiting lines when privately-funded
alternatives are available.
Two subsequent polls conducted for the CMA revealed that 80% percent
of Canadian physicians and 65% of their patients think the Supreme Court
of Canada decision will lead to shorter wait times.
The poll results also made clear that physicians have reservations
about the impact of increased privatization, with 58% concluding that their
patients will either not qualify for private insurance or won't be able to
afford it.
At its annual meeting in Edmonton just a few weeks ago,
physician members of The CMA voted
overwhelmingly in support of a two-tiered medical system.
Two of three doctors in Canada favoured the idea of a health
care delivery system that departs from the status quo.

Critical Illness insurance provides the financial resources necessary to
quickly access the finest medical attention. Patients without those resources
will be forced to join the queue, and the waits for treatments will only grow longer
as baby boomers age and the health care system gets stretched even thinner.
My professional mission is let every Canadian know there’s no need to endure long
waits for medical treatments – that’s why Critical Illness insurance was
invented in the first place!
You may have already heard my radio campaign launched across southern Ontario
with Critical Illness Insurance as its focus. Thank you to everyone for
your great feedback and encouragement. The ads have been working really
well to promote Critical Illness insurance to consumers and to other insurance
advisors who don’t know enough about this important protection product.
My success could never have occurred without you. I am genuinely grateful for your
continued support, and appreciate all your referrals. This is a very exciting time to be
in the insurance industry and I look forward to serving you and your family in the future.
